Val: The girls treat the cemetery like it's a park. Phil: It's beautiful here. Val: Do you think it's disrespectful that they're running around? Phil: They're kids. They don't need heavy hearts. Val: I should follow their lead. Phil: Teach me how to make a daisy chain!
@sugie63 “now i hope that our laughter brought some peace…”: I think that’s a lovely sentiment.
why should being dead cut you off from life? people need closure on the person who has died, and val and her children seem to have peace with their father. my sister and her children go to see their father in the cemetery, and I think it’s comforting to them.
i think it’s bad to go on grieving so much that you’re paralyzed forever. I like that man who mentioned (commenting on a previous strip) that he told his first (dead) wife about his prospective second one.
Why didn’t I ever meet a man like Phil? I stopped believing they existed. Maybe the cartoonist doesn’t believe it either - but she has the freedom to invent him.
