Holly: Mom? I've decided I should be home schooled. Immediately. The system is crushing me! My spirit is being squashed!! My imaginination is being sacrificed before the gods of memorization and repetition!! Val: Big test tomorrow, Holly? Holly: I'm a genius crammed into the tiny box of seventh grade and I can't breathe!!
I homeschooled my children, and there is definitely some truth to what Holly is saying, all-be-it for her own selfish reasons. Of course, Val can’t quit work to homeschool, but I think Holly would definitely benefit from getting away from school for a while and learn something about real-life—without fashion labels, and who’s a geek and who’s in the “in” crowd, and so-on.
