Stone Soup by Jan Eliot Joan: Sometimes I envy you, Wally. Wally: Why? Joan: You're a man. Life is simpler. Wally: How so? Joan: You have a certain amount of privilege and respect handed to you because you're male. You aren't judged by appearance, you age gracefully, the world REVOLVES around you. Joan: Haven't you ever noticed? Wally: I'm balding and paunchy. I'm not competitive and I hate sports, I'd rather cook and last year, I took up watercolors. I've never been "one of the guys." Joan: Bummer genes. Wally: Yeah. Sometimes I envy you, Joan.
