The Soviet Union was crushed in the Cold War, and before Trump took office, its successor state, Russia (minus many of the former “Soviet Socialist [not really] republics [also not really]”) was no longer considered a superpower.
Enter Vladimir Putin. Former top KGB official trained in developing kompromat and cultivating foreign assets. He zooms in on a pathetic loser who has a lot of money inherited from Daddy, failed at every business he actually tried to do on his own, multiple bankruptcies, fraud, scams, not paying employees or contractors, no American bank willing to lend money to this proven failure…
But the guy still has some of Daddy’s money and a high social profile. Putin sees a potential asset. He loans Trump money that no bank will offer. He sets up lucrative money laundering “real estate transaction” scams that don’t pass either the smell test or legal muster. He brings Trump to Russia, sets him up in a Ritz Carlton Moscow room overlooking the Kremlin and heavily bugged with video recording equipment, and plies him with urinating prostitutes. And proposes projects that violate existing sanctions that cause Trump to salivate.
So of course they’re on the same page. Because if Trump changes the page, out comes the info on the money laundering, projects that violate sanctions and, oh yeah, they do have the pee pee tapes.
