GoComics stopped printing “Peanuts Begins” Sunday strips near the start of 2023. Back in December of 2022, the month and day of the 1954 strips was quite close to the month and day of reprinting – only three days off. Now, with all the skipped Sunday strips, it is a month off. Today’s strip was originally printed on Monday, July 4, 1955.
Side story: I was on an old IRC channel back in the early 90s when I used the word “ornery” in the chat. Another member didn’t understand what the word was, so asked me to explain it. I found it a difficult definition to articulate adequately: gouchy, touchy, irascible, etc. Then somebody else chimed in with a completely wrong attempt (something to do with happy or silly.) I countered, other folks jumped in with their understanding of the word, and thus was lit one of the early, Paleozoic internet flame wars. (I also leave open the possibility I may have fallen for some of the first proto-trolls successfully baiting me….).
She’s quoting an adult, probably her mom, and is proud of herself. “Better to be a fussbudget than a welcome mat.” Right Lucy? My NM did the opposite with me
A question for US readers – is the word “fussbudget” still in use? I have only seen it in Peanuts Begins strips, and I’m a frequent consumer of US-produced literature, news and pop material. Just curious.

You’re not “plain ornery” Lucy. You bring ornery to a whole new level.
