Last I checked, lead paint and asbestos were legal in rentals, along with pesticide residue…
they’re considered safe as long as they’re neither loose nor peeling.
If a place was built before a certain date, and you have children,
they’re supposed to give you a form or a leaflet warning you not to let your kids chew the walls, in case those things are present.
Of course, the landlord is also supposed to disclose their presence, if known,
