The conception isn’t the point. What about the rights of the woman to not be traumatized for an additional 9 months while this fetus grows inside of her, or the trauma of giving birth, knowing where said fetus comes from? One the baby is born, then who will care for the child? Are you insisting she continue caring for this unwanted intrusion by her rapist?
No. No. A thousand times NO! A woman, who is a living, breathing Person, has rights superseding that of an egg, an embryo, or a fetus. And NO ONE but that woman has the right to determine what she does with her body.
RAPE is RAPE, and a criminal offense. If a woman is slashed with a knife during her rape, are you also going to refuse to stitch up those wounds to HER body? The medical consequences of a rape should be addressed by medical professionals, and the patient, not some “Whack job” politician.(male at that)
None of my known relatives, friends or acquaintances have suffered a rapist’s attack and I find charlie555’s comment revolting. --Becca and dtroutma are correct.
One other thing to consider, and many males haven’t thought this through: rape is a crime of violence, not sex. There is always the heredity-vs-environment issues, but I think we can all agree that in some cases, a criminal is that way because he/she was just born with something wrong with the genetic code, resulting in antisocial behavior. There’s a good chance any offspring of this kind of person may inherit the same mental problems of the father. This means that carrying the child to term can be dangerous to the mother and to society, as that child grows up.As far as I’m concerned, the fewer children born to violent criminals, the better.
The above comment is in addition to the input from Becca and dtroutma. Although I agree, I feel no need to repeat what someone else has already said eloquently enough.
