Today’s right-wing Talibangelical Theocratic Republican of Gilead is a death cult and Donald Trump, the least pious president in this nation’s history, is their messianic prophet. They want to hurry, hurry, hurry to usher in the end times, the rapture, the destruction of the world and a blissful eternity of plucking harps on their clouds with an eternal earworm from the Hallelujah Chorus.
No protection of school children, church-goers, shoppers or patrons of movies, concerts or nightclubs, from the epidemic of mass casualty gun genocide.
No protection of basic rights for women to control their own bodies and their own destinies. Prior to the widespread availability of contraception and abortion, both of which are now on the chopping block, women were at a distinct competitive disadvantage in the workplace. Religious conservatives want to return us to the days when women were relegated to the role of brood mares — Samuel Alito’s opinions, both draft and final, made clear his intent that the purpose of women is to provide a supply chain for the “domestic supply of infants … available to be adopted.”
No protection from the looming climate and environmental disaster. They want the world to end. They want to usher in the “end times.”
No protection from those who wish to eliminate the “wall of separation between church and state.” Somehow I doubt their rulings in the school tuition case or the prayer at school events case would have been the same if we were talking about Muslim, Wiccan or Satanic schools or public prayers. They do not want freedom of religion, they want the power to impose their religious opinions and superstitions on the rest of us.
