Today’s right-wing Talibangelical Theocratic Republican of Gilead is a death cult and Donald Trump, the least pious president in this nation’s history, is their messianic prophet. They want to hurry, hurry, hurry to usher in the end times, the rapture, the destruction of the world and a blissful eternity of plucking harps on their clouds with an eternal earworm from the Hallelujah Chorus.
No protection of school children, church-goers, shoppers or patrons of movies, concerts or nightclubs, from the epidemic of mass casualty gun genocide.
No protection of basic rights for women to control their own bodies and their own destinies. Prior to the widespread availability of contraception and abortion, both of which are now on the chopping block, women were at a distinct competitive disadvantage in the workplace. Religious conservatives want to return us to the days when women were relegated to the role of brood mares — Samuel Alito’s opinions, both draft and final, made clear his intent that the purpose of women is to provide a supply chain for the “domestic supply of infants … available to be adopted.”
No protection from the looming climate and environmental disaster. They want the world to end. They want to usher in the “end times.”
No protection from those who wish to eliminate the “wall of separation between church and state.” Somehow I doubt their rulings in the school tuition case or the prayer at school events case would have been the same if we were talking about Muslim, Wiccan or Satanic schools or public prayers. They do not want freedom of religion, they want the power to impose their religious opinions and superstitions on the rest of us.
My husband and I have decided we may have lived too long. We’re in our 70s…we were idealistic in our 20s and for most of our lives. I wish we could have gone without seeing/living with what is going on now. Signed, a hippy girl and a Vietnam vet.
Unfortunately, and as much as I disagree with the decisions made by the Supreme Court, the reality is that the Supreme Court is the only branch of government doing its job. They were not created to legislate or implement policy from the bench. Congress continues to fail at doing its job. For over a century, they’ve pushed responsibility of governing to the Executive branch and the Supreme Court. This has led to career politicians whose primary goal is to get re-elected so they can score the bigger paycheck.
Congress and the people who occupy it are the problem. They fail to perform even their most basic responsibilities. That’s given us demagogues as POTUS and a Supreme Court who have used the bench to implement politically driven policy.
It’s time to reform everything. Term limits for Senators and Representatives, better definition of the POTUS’s responsibilities, and age/term limits for SC justices.
This country is slowly developing into an example of how “democracy” fails. We may not survive Trump. We most definitely will not survive another Trump who’s learned from the first’s mistakes.
If they want to remove the Separation of Church and State, and let “The Church Rule The Government”, like Bobble-Headed Boebert has flat-out stated, then one other law needs to be changed…. ELIMINATE THE TAX EXEMPTIONS FOR THE CHURCHES!!If they want to try to run things, or become another PAC, the THEY NEED TO PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE!! Start collecting Income Taxes on their donated income, Start collecting Property Taxes on ALL their Land Holdings, Tangible Assets and Buildings, and make then RETROACTIVE to the establishment of the Tax Code!!
The Catholic Cult’s Tax Bill ALONE could wipe out a massive amount of the National Debt…
The Court is now the symbol of an America riven between meeting the tidal changes taking place nationally and internationally or desperately turning the clock back to a mythical past. History shows the latter effort always fails, and often at great cost.
“You chuck it on that one, you chuck it on this one /You chuck it on your mother and you / chuck it on your father / You chuck it on your brother and you chuck it on your sister / You chuck it on that one and you chuck it on me
Bad boys, bad boys / Whatcha gonna do? / Whatcha gonna do when they come for you?" Inner Circle: – 1987.
We all saw how Ketanji Brown Jackson was treated during her conformation hearing. The Republicans called her by every nasty name they could, some came close to using the “N” word. If that doesn’t persuade voters to vote out every Republican candidate in the U.S.A., nothing will.
Next they are overriding the election system, There is a theory being pushed by some one the court called “independent state legislature doctrine” where they want state judges redistricting the state and overriding state election commissions and Secretary of States that certify election results.
So they are gutting the EPA? Well, as we used to say in LA when I was a kid: “I like to SEE the air I breathe!” Actually that was Firesign Theatre but it was still true—you could see it.
Despite being in the minority, members of the SCOTUS, “Conservatives,” RWNJs, and white supremacists are attempting to drag this country back to their imaginary Jeffersonian agrarian idyl. The 1790 census (when Jefferson was Secretary of State), counted 5.3M Americans. Only white males owning 50 acres or more of land were permitted to vote, approximately 6% of the population. Free white men who did not own land, free white females, and slaves could not vote. In 1790 the American population was largely rural, making a living by farming. Our most recent census counted 332,403,650 Americans. Current estimates are that 83% of Americans live in urban areas. They do not work at farming. In pursuit of “small government,” the following are conservatives’ goals for their Jeffersonian America: 1. No women’s rights. 2. No civil rights for people of color, or for any other minority groups. 3. No immigration, other than Caucasians. 4. No labor unions. 5. No health insurance. 6. No legal recourse due to Republican-packed courts. 7. No social security. 8. No disability insurance. 9. No minimum wage. 10. No free and fair elections (ultimately, no elections). 11. Imposed state religion; government funding of religious schools. 12. Unregulated militias unchecked by Republican-packed courts. 13. No work on mitigating climate change; no environmental protections. 14. No free press. GOP politicians don’t care about the environment or mitigating climate change because they intend to stay permanently in office and use their money and power to take over remaining livable locations as environmental conditions worsen. Why do you people who support today’s GOP, Trump, and Trump wannabes think that you will come out winners under this regime?
If Moscow Mitch and his fellow members of the Godawful Obsolete Party had not decided to betray their oaths of office (in other words, had they not decided to betray their country ), and had they confirmed Obama’s nominee, the recent idiotic decisions of the Court would’ve been 5-4 instead of 6-3 (assuming that Traitor Trump had won in 2016 and nominated two Injustices instead of three).
