“HIPPA” doesn’t allow revealing what exactly these “fatalities” diseases, problems or COD were, so it’s hard to say it was actually delays at VA, but there’s no question there’s a staffing problem (a bunch actually) that need resolve, and to take from Reagan, Congress IS the PROBLEM, not the solution. Especially so on the conservative side.
The VA has just undergone a huge implementation of transferring to electronic records from the old-fashioned paper type records. That’s right, it is a recent development. Perhaps, it will be better once the implementation is complete. And there is a need for more staff. Will the GOP ever vote to make those funds available? Only if they think people are watching? The GOP also likes to attach a Sophie’s choice measure when voting to increasing funding for vets. It takes time to make these huge changes, unfortunately. It is like having a big bottleneck and they open one lane, so then even more cars are on the highway, not less. It takes time to get things going.
Medicare is health insurance, not healthcare like the VA. The government pays part of the Medicare cost (with taxes) and the retirees pay the rest in the form of premiums, co-pays and deductibles. The current problem can be solved tomorrow by giving the vets having to wait a voucher to see a private doctor. After than, it should be converted to a system like Medicare with the government paying all the costs .
