The GQP only oppose the bill because they are useless and will oppose anything the dems are for. As I said elsewhere; they should remove all the republican seats and plant a vegetable garden. It would be infinitely more useful than the current vegetable that occupy those spots.

And how many people do those 51 senators represent, and how many do the remaining 49 represent?

Michael Ramirez continues to demonstrate how fact-challenged, math-challenged, honesty-challenged, democracy-challenged or all-of-the-above challenged he is if he does not understand that the Senate is NOT a democratic institution.

And no, 51 votes from conservative senators does NOT equal a majority, when a state like Montana or Wyoming, with 1/18 the number of people as California has the same number of senators.

No, it is not a majority. 24% of the people represented are able to block the will of 76% of the people.

Even without the filibuster, the red state conservative failed, impoverished taker-welfare states would be far over represented compared with the successful, prosperous donor states. Add in the fact that just 40 senators from the smallest states with the fewest people (representing land [dirt], not people; conservative believe PEOPLE are worth less than DIRT) can use the corrupt, RACIST filibuster (begun to obstruct civil rights reforms and perpetuated to obstruct civil rights reforms) such that senators representing 24% of the population can overrule the will of senators representing 76% of the population.

    That is NOT a majority.

    That is NOT a democracy.

And if Michael Ramirez does not understand that, he is ignorant and uneducated and unqualified to comment. And if Michael Ramirez DOES understand it, he is immoral and dishonest.

And the two are not mutually exclusive.

That’s true at the surface level. But Manchin is reneging on his agreements with Biden, and the 50 GQPists are simply refusing to consider anything at all that has Biden’s support.

50 of them oppose anything that helps American people in principle, and one does to show how powerful he is when he sides with that 50. And that 51 represents barely 40% of all Americans.

What kind of crazy idiocy is this supposed to be? Manchin is voting AGAINST the will and the best interests of his constituents. That’s the very definition of being ANTI-DEMOCRATIC.

Ramirez is the very worst of the right-wing Treason-Speakers, beyond any shadow of a doubt.

51 Senators: 49 all on party lines, Manchin to save his job and Sinema who’s flipping parties like most people change their underwear (and getting richer in the process).

Here’s my prediction: if it passes, everyone of those 51 will be back home touting the benefits of the program and taking credit for fighting the evil liberals.

Great cartoon Mr. Ramirez. Sometimes the liberals forget that we have to pay for the excesses of pests like Cortez. The only notable thing that she has accomplished is keeping Amazon from building a center in her district, thereby missing out on hundreds of jobs. But of course, she doesn’t want her constituents actually working. What a clown that all of you are in love with.

Here’s a better one: giving welfare to the wealthy to buy more politicians to give them even more welfare is undemocratic. Those in special education should learn to vote for their own interests and not those of the wealthy, who laugh at them all the way to the bank.

When 45 of those senators are from the least populous states, that’s not a majority at all.

The peanut gallery commenting on Mr. Ramirez’ cartoon continue to demonstrate the poor education system we currently have. No one seems to understand that the Senate is not supposed to function as the House of Representative does. Senators represent the interests of their states, while the House members represent the interests of the people of their districts. 51 votes out of 100 represent a majority. They cry saying Manchin is one person thwarting the wishes of Biden, but seem to have no problem with Biden dictating to 350 million people about vaccines, taxes, and the like – he’s a president, not a king! And now the ankle biters with respond to this post and continue to demonstrate their invincible ignorance. Get the popcorn.

Several posters here (just like AOC) do not seem to realize that 51 Senators is a majority of 100 Senators.

A majority of the Senators who represent the minority of the nation. Does that REALLY constitute a majority? No, it demonstrates a flaw in our system. I highly respect our representative democracy, but the system has been twisted so that a minority of the population makes the decisions for our nation.

Cartoon is correct. Opposed by 51 senators but only by one person. (Who is quickly losing that status.)

Well, that is a good point. The Republicans have not lifted a finger to improve the lives of Americans. Even when they were in charge, they don’t govern. When the Republicans were in charge, the only thing Congress did was pass a $2 trillion tax cut, try to repeal Obamacare, pack the courts with their guys and investigate Benghazi. They have no ideas on how to help the country.

So much for the “majority” in the Senate (a profoundly undemocratic institution even without the insane Perpetual Filibuster). Now, try something else: what do the American People want? Every poll I’ve seen shows huge support for what’s in the bill (and some opposition to things that aren’t in fact in it, naturally, disinformation being what it is). The citizens of West Virginia in particular would benefit a lot, since it’s a pretty run-down state as it is, and some past remedies, like green-lighting the manufacture of toxic chemicals, haven’t worked too well in the long haul.

Nationwide polling (so I’ve read) indicates that a majority of the US population is for most, if not all, of the major features of the BBB bill, but the Democrats have done a rather poor job of publicizing it to voters. The Republicans, on the other hand, uniformly don’t want any of it because its success would make them look bad, and their only interest seems to be in blocking Democratic successes, not actually pushing any useful legislation of their own.

You what’s fun about people like Mr. Ramirez? The people who are among the loudest critics of Democratic spending are among the first to hoover up that money and take credit for it. AND they are spending it on things that aren’t real infrastructure, but broadband access, unemployment, childcare, things like that.

There are 50 Republicans who will vote against ANYTHING Democrats propose no matter what it is. Even more important — I would be fine with them trashing Democrat proposals want to do if they would ever propose THEIR OWN solutions! They TALKED about infrastructure during the Trump years they never proposed anything. It has been more than twenty years since the ADA passed and I first heard the words “repeal and replace.” While Republicans gutted parts of it and tried to repeal it — they have still have proposed NO REPLACEMENT! Criticizing the job someone else is doing is very easy if your just sitting on your butt complaining but doing nothing yourself.

Manchin objected to one program put forward by Democrats that would have given the IRS the power to gather private information on Americans’ income and purchases from their banks. Another was a proposal to give an additional $4,500 tax credit to citizens for buying electric vehicles (EVs) made in a unionized factory.
