I was startled when I saw this from Lalo since migrants come across the border at harvest time. Without their hard work in the fields, crops would die.
I heard Rubio blame Biden’s “Open Border” policy — which doesn’t exist. It made me wonder what a truly open border would look like. In fact, I see very few drawbacks to a truly open border other than making the racists really mad (but is that a drawback?). I’ve seen truly open borders (where there’s no border guard at all and barely a sign acknowledging that you’re in a different country), and there really isn’t a problem. In fact, we used to have that here, and it was not bad.
The old (gone) bracero program at least acknowledged that we needed (legal) immigrants to harvest crops and tend fields, as well as process meat. Now we just nod nod wink wink at the illegals doing the same work. It’s basically national farm policy to employ illegal immigrants and nobody talks or does anything about that at all. Corporate farms make money, those people make minimum wage or less. Remember the Florida tomato pickers vs Publix, where they could have had a living wage if we paid 1 cent a pound more for tomatoes?
Lalo got it right this time, its dems that have gotten in the way of immigration reform 5 times during Goerge W’s years just not to give a win to the gop before an election and then 8 years of Obama nada! And its been 3 cycles since then they have the White House and majorities and didn’t even try! And then they rather stick it to trump than help 1.3 million ‘dreamers’ time for dems to stop using latinos (Latinx is a made up thing so white liberals feel better and righteous non of us us it or like it and many of of are like ‘que!?’ When we hear it)
Sure don’t know why you folks are arguing about what political parties are and are not doing about immigration. There’s nothing either can do about it. America is run by corporations who want to keep the cheap labor coming in.
How many “They need to immigrate legally” people have any idea how difficult that is? And likely impossible for many? My son married a Chinese woman while he was living in China. First off, marrying a US citizen giving you free entry is a myth, completely untrue. When they decided to move to the USA it took 2.5 years of paperwork, plus I had to sponsor her by putting up my house as collateral. She spoke perfect English, had two Masters degrees, and wanted to study to be an RN when she got here. You’ve surely noticed our nurse shortage? Then it took two years and finally intervention by our congressman to get her a green card so she could work. Our immigration system is completely broken. Immigrants for the most part want to come here to work, the “no one wants to work” crowd should be screaming the loudest for reform.
Thanks everybody. It didn’t dawn on me that their deaths were what Lalo was referencing. Had that occurred to me, I would definitely have had a different comment.

We do not have an immigration problem, we have an **"US**" problem. We are the problem.
Migrants have been taken advantatage of, abused and even raped and murdered with no legal protections for well over a century.

Illegal immigration is honestly not that bad of a crime.

Which political party treats “illegal” immigrants as criminals rather than as fellow human beings?
