Watched another stupid movie wherein a falling elevator was part of the plot line. Cartoonists and scriptwriters will always demand that Mr. Otis’ patent is not applied in their world.
Elevator shafts are dangerous. When John Carpenter made his first movie “Dark Star”, there was a long seqence in an elevator shaft. He found that the permits and safety requirements to shoot the scene in a elevator were prohibitive. They created a horizontal elevator set and the actor was lying on a slide platform. He said he had fantastic abdominal muscles by the end of the filming. :)
