When I was a kid I have no idea if main library has toys or learning games for children, my mom never brought us kids to library. I missed out a lot as a child. When I had children we lived in small town and we did go to library and there was no games or toys, small version of main public library.
You tell ’em Library Lady. Rampant commercialism. Why the next thing you know, comics.com will be trying to sell you books full of comics…..
Our local branch library has a play area, but they also have a kids reading area that is like an indoor tree house. Pretty cool. Kinda wish I was a kid. (only way i’d fit. LOL)
They usually have toys in Main libraries like the one in my area but not in smaller branches. The pay isn’t as bad as the library lady said either, it’s one of the better paying jobs that you can find without a college degree. The actual librarians have degrees of course but the staff who checks out materials and puts them away doesn’t have to.
When I had my bookstore, kids would come in, look around in awe, and say, “Is this some kind of library?” I would usually say, “Yes, and for a small fee, you can keep the book.”.QuietStorm27: What state is that? I applied at out local library and was turned down although I had several Library Science courses in my Interdisciplinary major – which was more than the head librarian had (just “in-service”, one-day classes). Around here, males may not be public librarians, just academic or industrial ones, which is one reason I support job equity laws.
lookwhatbobfound: Great: Most of those who were permitted are in their mid-70s now and long ago forced to retire. There are a handful in wide-spot-in-the-road towns whom, I suspect, hold the position still because they personally established the institution on behalf of the public.

Our local library has toys. You can check them out just like a book. Mostly things like puzzles, stuffed animals, games, and legos.
