The brings back memories of my military stint during the Nam era. The barracks denizens of that time were eerily similar to Matt’s characters.

There’s too much incarceration. How much does it really help anything?

The problem with an idiot like Bors is that if it were felons getting more space, he would have drawn chickens stuck in cages that are totally closed-in around them. In his perfect world, chickens and felons alike would be free to do whatever, to whomever they wish with impunity.

The federal government creates people who want to destroy your neighborhood, and make hell on earth for everyone. They celebrate the “occupy movement,” which calls for anarchy and the destruction of every institution that made the US the greatest, most exceptional nation on the face of the earth. Public schools indoctrinate children into hating America. When cop-killers are on death row, they come out of the woodwork, demanding “justice” for the KILLERS. Up is down, wrong is right, and tyranny is justice.

Prisons are overpopulated because of stupid laws(pot, anyone?) and a for profit prison system.

Maybe then they won’t have to cut their beaks off! They have to do that because chickens crammed together in too small cages go nuts and peck each other to death. Maybe, if they are lucky they will have enough room to walk a few stepsMeat eating is a gateway to cruelty..

The REAL problem is that “taxpayers” want MORE people locked up, for LONGER sentences, but will NOT pay for building more jails, or staffing them. We’ve got jails right now, but are releasing prisoners, because the “voters” turned down the levy to have any jailers!

The feds (but more likely “locals”) are more likely to get the henhouse protected, than get money to run “government”.

The local political machine knocked themselves out getting two prisons here, one state, one private. And the locals vote them back in every time. Of course, total media censorship of any opposition might be a factor, but in small towns, word of mouth still works to spread information – just not affect elections.

Sorry, I don’t consider wikipedia a valid source so long as any Tom, Dick or Hairbrain can alter the “facts” at will. Have you another source?

Actually, one of the root causes is the privatization of prisons. It has been extremely profitable, especially since you can effectively abuse prisoners without blowback (see some of the conservatives above, who assume that because you have been jailed, it’s fine to abuse another human being) to increase your profits. The re-emergence of the chain gang is also generating revenue. But the unintentional consequence of this is the prison lobbying industry. They have lobbied for stricter sentences and obligatory prison time for even minor offenses to increase their prison population — and revenues. And they have been successful.Do we REALLY think the “exceptional” US of A should have more prisoners per capita than any nation in the world?

If prisoners are treated humanely, educated, given job training (probably better treatment than their peers get on the streets) it makes them more likely to be able to get a job once they get out. If a person gets out of prison with a bad attitude and no skills, he is likely to end up back in prison costing us more money. Imprisonment should include rehabilitation.

thing is that if people followed his teachings we would have voluntary socialism with anybody who has any wealth giving it all away to the poorer among them and all being the same.
