It was actually the republicans in congress back in 2006 passing a law requiring the USPS to prefund the retirement of all postal employees for the next 75 years in a 10 year period that’s causing all the trouble now. The cartoonist really does come off as being uninformed with this one.
Congress just ‘saved’ Saturday delivery. How much will that cost us? I think a 2 business day guarantee and 3 day a week delivery for residential spaces would save lots.
Please. It’s obvious the GOP has been trying to kill the post office so corporations can take it over, just as they are trying to do with social security, medicare, education, etc. They’re trying to “Bain Capital” the post office, fire the workers, sell the pieces, and allow UPS to monopolize the market. Then, they’ll hire back half the workers at half the salary, and claim they’re “job creators.”
Got to say I “love” the name of the carrier firm named “ups” really is a name that gives faith in packages arriving intact.Yes I know its not them here, but its still a fact :p
And congressman are buying UPS franchises, maybe there is a secret agenda. If you can destroy the USPS, think of the increased profit a UPS would make.…….http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2039754/Tea-Party-Congressman-John-Fleming-says-barely-gets-600k-year.html
Technically, the USPS IS a “corporation”, and micro-management by Congress caused the vast majority of the “red ink”. As Republicans look to micro-managing even MORE agencies, blame may be shared, but they ARE out to claim by far the greatest responsibility for failed practices, and dumb moves.
Everything Lisa knows about government can be covered by a 2 cent stamp, and is as legitimate as a $3 bill.
Raise the price for the delivery of advertising materials by one cent per piece. They’ll make another billion overnight.Or the public will never see another piece of junk mail. Either way we win.
Mail is supposed to be subsidized by the government. Otherwise we’d be paying a for profit corp $5 to mail a letter across the street. Oh, right, that’s what Republicants want.
Sure, “use a private corporation.” like three years ago when a small package never made it to me in a month’s time. USPS would have had it to me in less than a week. Are you aware that these private corporations despite charging more, use the USPS for finall delivery in many cases?
And none of you guys have any idea who else it affects? What about those of us who collect stamps? I see not only the history of the Postal Service in them, but also the History of our Country as well. I do not want the USPS to be under privatization, as I think it does well enough as it is. If they cut out delivering on Saturdays, it wouldn’t bother me any at all.
Not to mention that Netflix is one of their best customers….

Skip: FedEx major cost saving? It’s using the POST OFFICE to deliver their packages, after THEY have been holding onto them!

Harley, The Post Office does not have a monopoly on mailboxes. -Go to the Post office and try to buy a mailbox. They don’t sell them.
