Rewriting (sorry, @Number Six — thought you were referring to my eCards; deleting my earlier one removed the Reply connection; I miss the Edit button): Click-to-enlarge image. This is part of a diptych, presently at the National Gallery of Art, by this artist. Here is the information page (note painting size) for the Saint Veronica (Catholic bio) wing/panel. On the back is the ChaliceofSaint John the Evangelist (Catholic bio, click-to-enlarge 2nd image and description). The other wing/panel is Saint John the Baptist (Catholic bio, click-to-enlarge image and description, not the owner of the chalice), and on the back of it is a skull (click-to-enlarge image and description) with the inscription MORIERIS, which this translates as you will die, I assume eventually. The date of this varies, as can bee seen in the links I provided. So far, 2 works by this artist have appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog.
Veronica is holding the ‘Image of Edessa’ or Mandylion. There is a theory that this icon was really the Shroud of Turin, folded up for many centuries to show only the Face.
Most mothers of teenage boys are used to finding the bedsheets crusty in the morning. But Mama Santorum had a rather more difficult problem with young Rick.
Here is another of the 3 (not 2, Mr. Melcher listed him under a different nationality) works by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here.

“caption” If I told him once, I told him a thousand times, Jesus don’t draw self portraits on the bedsheets !

Apparently the artist could only draw one face…either that or Jesus and Veronica were closely related.

It’s creepy how the eyes seem to follow you no matter which way she turns the sheet.

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1
