Republicans want the Federal Government to look bad. Then they can go back to rule by the 1% (for the 5%) like it was in “The gilded age”. The Democrats are better, though not by nearly enough. At least they want our Democracy to succeed. As long as the American public is fooled by the current flood of propaganda, nothing will change. The voting system (winner take all in a popularity contest) will never allow a third party nor meaningful discussion of issues.
Not bad ideas ruff, but lc was referring to bruce’s post which was about public schools, i.e. primary ed. In that area, the basics are important, but art and music are also crucial to stimulate different types of thinking (a process which strengthens other processes, mostly math). Also, remember that the primary reason for education is making a better person, not job training.
Nice! I had to go through hoops to get financial aid to pay for those classes. I eventually went back to my major seeing as to how it was ridiculous for me to go throught the financial aid process every semester for becoming a paramedic.
bruce starts off with some good points sometimes, but bruce, you’re misrepresenting santorum.
he wants an end to public education altogether, not just at the federal funding level. more reasonable republicans make the argument they want schooling closer to home. but when you look at, for example, what texas wants in their textbooks, you’ll see the fallacy of that.
so you are putting republican words in santorums mouth. quite innaccurate for what he actually states..

Santorum wants to end public schooling. Only about 2/3 graduate from high school now so a lot of people won’t notice.

Electing a guy who says separation of church and state makes him want to throw up? Yes, yes it could get worse.

Republicans in the current mode, “post-Reagan” keep saying “government is the problem”, then every time they get elected, they PROVE it!

Kinda like Ronald Reagan, telling children a bedtime story how he would wave a magic wand, and the big, bad, deficit would go away!!
