Paraquat is used on almonds in this country and it,as well as other pesticides in this country, atrazine, ziram, bromacil, diuron, etc may be responsible a trigger for Parkisons. See UCLA’s Dr Jeff Bronstein’s studies on the Parkinson’s disease and Genes study. Europe has banned some of these pesticides/fungicides for the better good, not our E.P.A. though. So breathe in the coal combusted air and our fracked, pesticide, waste tainted water, and feel great about Republicans who think clean air and water should take a back seat to perceived economic benefits from removed environmental regulations.

Coal IS dirt, literally, and while scrubbing technology has improved, the very folks touting coal, don’t intend to go to the expense, just trade credits and keep pumping out “junk”. And yes, while there’s a problem with “storing” electricity, and wind doesn’t always blow, it IS cheaper than coal already, and coal sucks.

The US has gotten cleaner SPECIFICALLY because of government regulation, which the GOP has been eviscerating every chance they get. Or haven’t you noticed the drive to eliminate the EPA?

Clean coal is like saying there is clean excrement. Just don’t believe that the damage from fossil fuels doesn’t have negative consequences for this planet’s living organisms.

^^I dare you to drink fracking water designated as culinary water. Try running a mile in Salt Lake City at 5P.M. during the winter.

Onguard: while it still indeed twisted logic, and science, Clarkson on “Top Gear” in a review some time ago of a Porsche 911S pointed out that the exhaust WAS actually “cleaner” than the air in London and several other cities, thus it was a vacuum cleaner of sorts for the air! He just didn’t point out it was still pumping out emissions, and consuming resources, which of course are non-renewable.

    Here’s an article debunking some of churchy’s assertions. www.business week.com/ap/financial news/D9RNJ4L00.htm

And the consequences cost billions in health care and clean up. The EPA estimates 45,000 less deaths a year and 90 billion saved in health care costs with the new emissions controls in place, 5to9 $ saved for every 1 dollar cost for putting emissions controls in place. Church loves for children to have higher mercury levels in their tissues,so they’ll vote Republican.

and by the way, you’ll never see the word ‘coal’ without ‘clean’ in front of it. and you won’t see ‘nuke’ without ‘safe’ in front of it.

Look, Churchy, you probably have no more decision-making power on the questions we’re arguing than I do, which means…not much. Why are you so sure about anything?

And so angry? If you…or I…spend most of our time ONLY with people who totally agree with us…like Limbaugh, maybe? that’s basically just being flattered by a professional flatterer.

Sometime you might understand what being flattered and never disagreed with has turned you into…think what kind of a child you’d get if nobody EVER disagreed with it.

    Adults are far worse.

Certainly true. Awareness of immediate cause and effect is lost when cause and effect are separated in time Political attention spans are short, consequences delayed, and blame placed else where. Republicans cutting funding for infrastructure repairs to our highways, rail lines, electric grid, health care, education, and environmental protection will cost this country it’s competitive edge, and the countries long term economic welfare. The effects will last the next twenty years, just as Bush’s failed war is hurting our country now.

Dare I say — one reason to study ancient history is to get a sense of longer time lines. I know a lot of people think that it’s useless to study the Humanities, but learning to think about time — the past and the future — is pretty important.
