This is bull and you know it. Its ok for the rest of the world to have industry but not the US. the enviroment regulations is only truly aimed at redistribution of wealth from the US to the rest of the world.
Does anyone else remember trying to breath in LA before environmental regulation? Still not great, but definitely better (catch an old Carson monologue from “beautiful downtown Burbank”). I hear that Mexico City & Shanghai are there now. Global warming is a good argument for your grandkids & their grandkids, I like breathing better now.However, Eryx’ standard argument about our population vs our pollution, leaves out the percentage of the world’s people that we feed, either directly through agricultural sales & subsidies, or indirectly from corporate jobs.
Lanced boil is basically clueless, just another one. Chuklitl, remember very well looking from our hillside home across the Los Angeles basin and being able to point out every oil refinery early in the morning by the orange plumes. When Catalina Island was no longer visible because of the smog, it was sad. When I flew back into the basin after ’Nam, the pilot came on to tell us he was switching to instruments because the smog was too bad for VFR.
Laws changed after ‘69 and things go cleaned up, to some degree. Now the greed heads want all that filth back, damn the torpedoes and full speed astern. H.R. 1505 and several other “proposed” laws by republican K Street leeches, are already out there, getting more ridiculous every day. It’s plain stupid, and sickening.
By 2025, The Pacific Northwest wil be the first part of the country coal free. TransAlata’s coal plant is phasing out to be replaced by CLEAN energy , good jobs. Funny how conservatives cry about dirty coal. Clean-energy jobs are typically based in the manufacturing sector. Industrial workers hit hard by this recession can get back to making wind turbines,electric vehicles,energy efficient building materials.

Grayhares: we do NOT have the toughest regs, primarily because many, especially with regard to Gulf drilling, were “defanged” by Bush folks in 2007 (31CFR). Others, many others, were also eliminated, or the “inspectors” became unemployed by “budget cuts”. Now, the House is drafting tons, weigh them, of “laws” to eliminate the Constitutionally assigned duties of the Executive branch,hmm now that a Dem is in the White House they suddenly don’t like a “unitary presidency”???

The US has some of the toughest environmental regulations in the world. Our rate of consumption is the problem, not the EPA regulations…
