Bread: Baby, it's not what it looks like!
While he’s at work earning a crust she just loafs around spreading herself thin while doing the chores. Sometimes you never know which side your bread is buttered. I suspect she’s now “toast”.

What should he think when she’s spread out on the bed like that… and with her honey!

He doesn’t seem like the battering type to me, so I can’t see that excuse working.
The “other slice” seems remarkably calm. Maybe he’s a professional butterer and this is therapy of some kind? I don’t see any rising dough…
