When I was a kid, there were 3 Davids in every class, along with all the Johns, Lindas and Marys. Nowadays, you never hear these names except when you meet old folks like me.

When I was a kid I would throw sticks at girls named Opal, and Jill, Judy, and Jane. Didn’t like girls then, but love them now.

Opal (or perhaps the cartoonist) is confused. One can speak of not being able to throw a stone without hitting a member of a certain set or there being more members of a set than one could shake a stick at.

High school English class – about 15 kids – 5 Susan’s and a teacher who couldn’t remember last names. Arthritis in her fingers made pointing at one of us a game of chance.
