It’s “cost/benefit”, when pharmaceutical companies don’t benefit enough, they restrict flow to increase cost. (Just as Republicans mandated in the “no bid” Part D medicare prescription stupidity.) Interesting that some high profit drugs making it into the black market because supply (manufacture) greatly exceeds legitimate demand, are in ready supply. How many PRESCRIPTION drugs advertised on TV are in “short supply”??

It’s those really important PATENTED drugs that are getting in short supply, especially when the patents are about to expire and the drug go “generic”.

Hey, greyhares01: Check out the origin label on the prescription drug. 85% are made here? I don’t think so. They are advertised here and sold here at prices much higher than they sell for in other countries(Canada, for instance). Big pharma has big suck in our congress and they use it to screw us royally.

Um, no. Prices are fixed because the GOP killed the option to enable Medicare to use Canadian drugs if they were cheaper. Under Bush, as I recall. And if you think 85% of the world’s new drugs come from the US, either you are getting some bizarre news (cite a link) or are just making it up. Of the twelve largest pharmaceutical companies, half are headquartered outside the US — and four of the top six.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pharmaceutical_companies

Gray, hate to tell you, but even without the wiki reference above, most of our drugs are “made” in the U.K, India, and elsewhere, only patented in the U.S., even by “U.S.” companies.

Obamacare is gonna close the Medicare part D loophole, though sadly in three years. Part D, BTW was bought in part to you by War Shrub and the Republican Congress.

every day it seems another medication is on ‘backorder’ this disrupts our process of caring for people – I’m a nurse… it’s gone way beyond dems or GOP – rather how much we’re nation of big business, for big business and by big business

^Susan, my daughter the RN moved to New Zealand last March. Her husband is VERY right and pro-anything profit and “business”. He’s already learning that, well, maybe there’s a smarter, better, way? Best of luck caring for your patients.
