As usual, the term “tax parity” is thrown in here, but there’s absolutely no definition of what it means. Nobody can possibly tell us what “fair” taxation is and nobody even tries to define it. All ignorant folks care about is that if someone makes more money than they do, then the government ought to take more of it away from them. For hell or high water, if they’re “rich” (and in today’s leftist’s lexicon, a “millionaire” is anyone who makes $200,000 or more per year) then they must be punished. That’s all that matters to you. It won’t matter if even LESS revenues are brought in as a result of it (because, inevitably the “rich” become poorer and poorer as a result). All you care about is making sure that if somebody is making more than YOU do, they should be punished for it.
This cartoon ays it all in a nutshell. The Republicans will do anything to prevent Obama from accomplishing anything even if it means taking the country down with them. If they really thought his plans were going to fail, why don’t they let him enact them and then they’ll have plenty of capital for the next election. Or are they really afraid his plans will work?
@yohannbiimuUm, no.Fair, is when those who earn a lot – we are not talking ‘millionaire’, but $200,000 will do very nicely – take their share of the hit, meaning that those we’d define as ‘poor’ do not end up paying the most. This is NOT punishment, but admitting that having a couple of thousand less out of several thousand in disposable income is not really a hardship. Not compared to those who have to decide between paying the heating bill and the weekly shopping.
Raising taxes does NOT raise revenues. The exact opposite is true. Why? Because taxing restricts economic activities, and less wealth is created. When taxes are lowered, economic activities increase, and more wealth is created to be taxed. BTW, your explanation of the poor doesn’t change if more money is taken from “the rich.” Their circumstances remain regardless of what government does “for them.” All this is historical fact. You cannot find ANY example where government has raised a society’s economic circumstances through taxation. Look at ALL of the poorest cities in America, and they’ve all been run by progressive/collectivist Marxists for decades. Wealth redistribution only makes all people poorer. It does NOTHING to increase people’s economic circumstances. All it does is make the oligarchs more powerful.

Given Obama’s posture there, I give the elephant credit for throwing the lug wrench away instead of doing what he’s REALLY tempted to do with it…

By the way, if this comic were to be made to appear more accurate, then Obama would be fixing the car with a jack-hammer.
