Well, I never went in my kids rooms unless it got overwhelmingly untidy. Then I threatened to go in unless it was cleaned up. Now in their 30s I have a son who is obsessively tidy and a daughter who is not. My take on it? Kids grow up in spite of what you do, their room is the only place they can call their own and they learned how to respect privacy, each other and me. And above all else – this is a comic strip – stop being so serious about it.

I went on a girls’ vacation with my Mom and sister last week. My mom, God love her, made the bed every day. I told her I didn’t make my bed at home (I’m 54) and I couldn’t understand why she would make it on vacation, but I did offer to make it for her. Unfortunately she did it every day while I was in the shower (I got up first).

Lynn, your comments on your website are awesome! Now that I know you don’t clean up (and you just bought steaks…) I don’t have to feel so bad.BTW, talking about steaks, when are you inviting us readers up for steak and beer? L

Susan, they get that way. They don’t start out that way.

I agree, JanCinVV. If he was coming back inside this way, fine. But to start off the day like this, yuck! Kids should learn to keep things tidy, whether it is in their nature or not. When they have their own place, they can do as they please, but if they don’t know how to clean, then they’ll never learn.

Let Michael be a kid! They grow up too fast anyway.

I don’t think he’s going to be able to find anything else (clean) to wear because Farley appears to be laying on just about everything Michael owns!

I once saw this cute saying somewhere: “No outfit is complete without dog hair!” ;-)

When I was 9 1/2 we adopted a dog and to my chagrin, my mother forbade her to be in my room anytime of the day or night

I have an agreement with the six cats in the room; as long as I fill the food & water dishes, and clean the litter box I’m allowed to stay here…

Clean or not, it’s going to look the same after a day of playing outside anyway.
