Im curious as to if that panel believes in catching it early to prevent further problems.

Check out this guy’s Editorials, Robert Ariail. http://robertariail.com/2009/11/16/shrinking-dollar/

Alternet had a column on this flap. I can’t remember all the statistics, but in the 40 to 49 age group, 1904 women would have to have mammograms for 10 years in order to prevent 1 death. As a woman who has had a bc scare, I wish women would read what the panel is actually saying.

Men can also be subject to breast cancer. My aunt, in southern Arkansas, belongs to a little brest cancer survivers and support group - a couple of male members.

Sort of attack against women’s health - cut mammograms, cut pap smears, outlaw abortion and birth control. The Catholic Bishops are also getting involved in health care reform. Many are NOT catholic. What no cutting prostrate exams??? And of course make sure they get their viagara.

The whole thing started when men realized that women live approx. seven years longer than men. They want equal time on this planet!

Excellent article, fennec ; thanks for the link ! Annamargaret1886 make a valid point - it is important to remember that a technique such as screening can do harm as well as good. As to hip54’s comment, just what are the recommendation for prostate exams in the United States - does general screening for prostate cancer take place there (excluding, of course, those of the between 40 and 50 millions uninsured in that country who come equipped with a glandula prostatica) ? We don’t do general prostate screening here in Sweden as the liabilities are judged to outweigh the benefits. Myself, I’d hesitate to recommend it to any man - including me - who is symptom free and without a family history….
