Benjamin said it best: “Life will go on as it has always gone on — that is, badly.”

But it’s giving Napoleon ideas as to arming Jessie and Bluebell…

in wisconsin there are upwards of 800 wolves. they are attacking and killing hunting dogs, snatching pets off of porches, killing livestock, and generally losing fear of humans. the dnr pays out hundreds of thousands of dollers in payments every year. a hunting season is sorely needed here.

Deer are essentially four-legged locusts. We have disrupted the top of the predator chain and are paying for the results. If the wolves are taking your pets, keep the pets away from the wolves. Try Siberia, where the dogs are taken by tigers. It is a food pyramid, and sometimes Fido is not at the top.

lol, yet another ted rall screed. Old teddy is fine with congress passing useless legislation as long as it fits into his little world view, but pitty the fool who crosses ted . . . . what a joke.

Yes, it’s open season on old white guys, in fact all old humans, and Paul Ryan and his gang of Rethuglicans are after us all!

Having a healthy wolf population at least keeps the coyotes out; they don’t like to share territory, and coyotes are (1) more numerous (a dozen wolves can keep a range free of hundreds of coyotes), (2) far more comfortable with encroaching on humans and developed areas, and (3) harder to control by other means (if you only remove even a substantial percentage of the coyote population from a coyote-friendly habitat, their numbers will increase the following year).

Of course, coyotes aren’t protected, so the government doesn’t compensate ranchers for coyote predation, so a lot of coyote kills get blamed on wolves.

Over 30,000 gun deaths a year, about 30 homicides a day in the U.S., and Congress plays “Red Riding Hood” in direct conflict with all scientific evidence. (Only ONE human death by wolves in the entire history of the United States, and feral dogs “pets” are the number one cause of predator deaths on livestock.) This is the same Congress that wants to cut spending on anything that saves lives, but will not cut squat from “defense” that offers no true defense, despite the huge cost and waste. F-ing brilliant!

michaelwme, it was also “Calvin & Hobbes.” I don’t know the date, but it’s on page 160 of There’s Treasure Everywhere.

Four deer with rifles bag Frank, an office worker:“You got ’im!”“He’s a big one, too!”“Nice shot, Bamb!”“Someone get the camera!”

Calvin, reading the story in class:“…Needless to say, Frank’s family was upset when he didn’t come home that night. But everybody understood that the human population had doubled in two generations to almost six billion, so some thinning of the herds was necessary to prevent starvation.”

The point of this is panel 2… from what I can see Ted’s issue is with scientists not being involved, which means money was more than likely the deciding factor.

The problem with technocrats (experts who understand the scientific method, are capable of rational thought and identifying and rejecting fallacies) is that while they will almost certainly make better leaders than people who are good are running for office, how do you get rid of them when they eventually go bad? Who decides to fire them? The people who keep voting for the superstitious and greedy Demoplicans deserve getting screwed by them. The rest of us don’t, but the catch 22 is that we have to play by their rules to change the rules, at which point we’ve become them.

Yes, and we environmentalists love the indifference of the Obama administration as concerns the timber wolf since 2009.

I fail to see how the facts you list are bad, nor how that adds up to a hunting season for wolves.

Farmers can legally kill predators to prevent livestock loss.

My family has seen wolves or their work in Central WI, and I’ve seen them personally as far south as Wausau.

Don’t get all butt hurt that The Northwoods is rich in biodiversity, people out west live with Mountain Lions and grizzlies. “Gee I likes Alaska but can’t we kills all the bears? They breaks my stuffs.”

Either brag about how great nature is in Northern WI that it can support (musky fishing) bears and wolves, or move to a golf course.
