There were times when the only reason a kid with good grades were popular…when it was time to do group work (which is why I hated group work).

Nerwin forgot to mention that if you make good grades other kids try to copy off your papers. I had a guy copy my answers on a math test when I was in 7th grade. But I decided I didn’t like being put in that position. So I wrote all the wrong answers really big. Then after he turned in his test I erased the wrong answers and wrote in the right ones. The teacher always handed our test papers back folded with the grade on the inside. So I just pretended I had made a bad grade (96 actually, ha) and was upset. The guy thought I was really dumb when he saw he had a 12. I didn’t have to worry about any more of that for a year at least. In high school though we didn’t have much of that whole thing (if you’re smart you can’t be popular), or I might just not have cared since I had a core group of friends to support me.
