I suspect cdward is correct when he wrote on another toon that Pres. Obama would probably rather not have been given this award at this time.

I think there may be an element of truth in this toon … the award is partly a recognition that Obama isn’t pursuing the same “cowboy” ways as Bush and it’s an encouragement to continue the course he’s on to reinvigorate diplomatic efforts with the world’s nations.

This is so true, the rest of the world must have grown so tired of the Bush bluster (and blunder) where he made many threats, but invaded the wrong country.

The world is a better place with Bush gone, to bad over 6,000 dead Americans will never know this.

You know what the terrorist did when Bush said “Bring it on!” They brought it on.

    From the AP story …

Unlike the other Nobel Prizes, which are awarded by Swedish institutions, the peace prize is given out by a five-member committee elected by the Norwegian Parliament. Like the Parliament, the committee has a leftist slant, with three members elected by left-of-center parties. Jagland said the decision to honor Obama was unanimous.

    From Pres. Obama message:

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who’ve been honored by this prize – men and women who’ve inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it’s also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I’ve said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won’t all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it’s recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

    A very accurate assessment, wtfallnamestaken.

On Sept 11th, we were attacked by religious fundamentalists.

    Scott is no better.

So, two of them are rightists and the award was unanimous. Upon further review, the cartoon stands as drawn.

I’ve seen precious little evidence that scottie is a Christian in anything but self-proclaimed name only. It is impossible that anyone could read the gospels and be as filled with hatred and misanthropy as scott.

“judge not lest ye too be judged”

    “turn the other cheek”

“do unto others as you would have them do unto you”

    etc.

    And I’m not even a Christian…

The Nobel Peace Prize is a joke and certainly not much of an honor to give it to someone who speaks promises.

What politician doesn’t promise peace to get elected?

Obama also promised to: Stop the war, Bring our soldiers home, and create 3 million new jobs.

wtfallnamestaken, you don’t know diddly squat about me or which soup kitchen I work in. All you know is that I don’t like to have the government pick my pockets.

    “God won’t! O’bambi won’t! But the hated “W” did for 8 years.

Nope, he didn’t. Far from it, he was completely useless when it happened. After all, the only time these extremists did anything more than plan how to infiltrate barracks as pizza men led to 9/11, and “W” did NOTHING to stop it. Not even after the freaking intelligence sent him a freaking briefing.
