They don’t employ us anymore, they outsourced. Plus, even if they made money, that doesn’t mean they worked hard; they may have made others work for them or inherited their company.
Manny Ramirez just signed a two year $45 million dollar conract with the Dodgers. Gosh I hope his taxes don’t go up. He must be a hard worker! He must work a thousand times harder than a doctor and three thousand times harder than a school teacher!

Good point! Very good point. But I would add that, if people didn’t pay to see these performers, they wouldn’t be able to be paid so much.
I don’t object to people being highly paid. My problem is with people who say that we are punishing hard work when we expect the rich (or well to do) to pay more taxes. Someone who is rich may not have worked any harder than someone making 50 thousand a year. They just work in a profession that rewards people more. The top tax rate used to be over 90%. Obama wants to raise the top rate from 35 to 39 percent and is called a Marxist by the far right. It just seems to me that the people who have benefitted the most from capitalism should be expected to give more back for the common good. Nobody making more than 250 thousand dollars is going to go hungry or lose their home(s) because of this. And if they do, it would be because they made some very bad personal decisions.
End of rant.
What’s really scary is to think that there is a gambling spread on how much they’ll sign for and with whom as well.
And don’t forget, there’s also gambling on how much the stock market will rise or fall on any given day…
If the simplistic definition of a socialist is someone who expects those who have a more than comfortable life to provide money to pay to make the ordinary existence possible for the average citizen, then socialists are just those who are employed by feudal lords. We pay those who employ us in time producing their merchandise and services and again in cash buying them.
There is also the fact that a large percentage of the rich inherited their money. Paris Hilton & George W. Bush do not exactly bring hard work to mind.
W never worked hard for anything in his life; he failed three times as a CEO and had to be rescued by his daddy; and one of his key initiatives was to kill any taxes on inheritance. Hmmm…wonder why?
But I’d have been happy to have him be baseball commissioner. He was a candidate, but they faked him out. Had they really offered it, he wouldn’t have run for President. And MLB might have been better for it, too.
Did someone mention me? Here’s what the rich will tell you and Obama , Humph (as if it mattered since you don’t even live in the States anyway) “Oh, yeah, bleeep you.” Which is what they are doing right now, or haven’t you noticed? I’m waiting to see if the Dems can fix something without screwing everything up in the process…
You short-sighted clowns think pay is connected to work or labor ;because you sit around sweating your 30 Grand job… People get paid for the value they return or can compensated for… Another reason why most here are out of their league and won’t admit it. Obama laughs at you because you actually believe his propaganda.
It would be fair if the rich worked proportionately harder, but they don’t. “Rich” people like Paris Hilton who make their money on investments should pay the same rate as hard working middle class people.
motivemagus, if you made more than $250k in a year when 4.5 million people lost their jobs, count your lucky stars that the worst problem you have is some additional income tax.

Rush Limbaugh makes millions and he loves his job. I don’t think he has to work at it very hard, though. It’s like he takes candy from babies.

cdward gets it. And Reaganomics inverted it.
Time to re-invert it.

Lots of good posts here. The quote by Balzac is very true in many cases. Example: the robber barons.
