The comics is half the reason that I buy the paper, but they don’t get the credit.

The comics were the only reason I bought the paper, here in NJ the cut the comics to just one page.

There are a lot of comic sites online so who needs the newspaper?
kab2rb over 14 years ago
So gocomics is poking fun at budget cuts. Internet is taking over. A year ago I just came upon gocomics. Have yet to start looking for other sites for comics, which cover current ones. The local paper here is suffering budget cuts and layoffs. I would like to find for Baby Blues, Zitts, Judge Parker, etc. I am surprise they are not talking more about back to school. That would be funny.

Good point Macush–though there are still a few usages for which newspapers work better:
padding-packing (much cheaper than “popcorn” or bubble-wrap) for fragile items when shipping/moving quick-and-dirty one-use tablecloths quick-and-dirty book cover-protectors quick-and-dirty giftwrapping

Check out Comics Kingdom. That site is now listed with several Newspapers like The Denver Post, Oregonian, Seattle Times & many others. I also go to Comics.com that carries some of the same comics as Go Comics. Some like Andy Capp & BC are also in color over there. Smaller sites that carry a lot of the same comics are Creators.com & Comic Strip Nation a newer one I recently found

@kab2rb Re: On-line comics.
Check comics.com and the Houston Chronicle website.

Ha, at least you all still get a print paper. Ours is now just twice a week (Thursday and Sunday) - and they bother to print comics in the Thursday paper. At least the Sunday comics usually stand alone. Of course our paper had mostly lame comics anyway, since the nearby big city market had exclusive rights on most of the good ones. That’s why I started reading them online!

@kab2rb: Re: Zits and Baby Blues
I read these two every day in the San Francisco Chronicle online - they even still carry “The Phantom”. Personally, as far as “Comics.com”, I had a lot of problems - their computer system is horrible and I finally canceled. if you want to try something different, google “Gypsy”, at Girlamatic (no, nothing to do with sex - I have no idea why they called the umbrella company “Girlamatic” - just a number of new and different comics)

Did one of you put drugs in my coffee this morning? I seem to be able to go back 14 days now without the weird guy flashing on the screen, telling me this is only for geniuses. Hasn’t it been just one week of reruns in the past?

for Zits I go to:

seems like they’ve decided to allow us to read an extra week of back copies, I guess. the weird guy is one of the Marx brothers, the main one, Groucho
of course they could change their minds again at any time

Thanks, Ushindi & RF; I never would have noticed if you hadn’t mentioned it. Two weeks of archives, yay!
Now, if they really wanted to entice us all to pay to be Geniuses, one excellent shiny carrot would be to offer Geniuses BIGGER AVATARS. Large enough to be seen without an electron microscope, maybe.

You got that right. To see a slightly larger version my avatar, you have to click this one next to this comment I just made!

Before Gocomics went to the new improved format (not that long ago) You could get a month of archives!
prasrinivaram, you forgot lining bird cages!

You gotta love down-sizing….
boxbabies over 14 years ago
I get Zits in my email through arcamax.com. There is a short list of comics that they offer to send each day.

Its nice the reader here work with others. On downsizing a local aircraft company had a major downsize, two executives resigned and a major one took a 10% pay cut. Thanks everyone for the comics sites. Good night

Who is responsible for decreasing the amount of space that each “comic strip” occupies??
The space allowed should be restored to what it was previously, at least. Many comics, especially single-panel ones, need a larger space than the artists are permitted now.
