Perhaps intermittent showers would have been a better forecast.

I never use an umbrella anymore but when I did this happened all the time. By the time you open it, it stops raining. When you close it, it starts again.

There was a Garfield like this one recently. Except Garfield got angry with the weather, yelled “Make up your mind!” and got simultaneous rain and sun shine.

When the newspaper calls for a 60% chance of rain it only means that there is a 60% chance that rain will fall somewhere in your area–not necessarily on you.

With due respect to MrSpock, I’ve often wondered what 50% probability of precipitation means. Will it rain on half the area but not the other, as he suggests? Will it rain half the time? Does it mean the prediction is no better than a coin toss?

I suspect these predictions are useful only toward the extremes of the range: do I carry an umbrella or not? Should I skip the car wash or not? Do I water the lawn or not? 50%, 60%, I’ll look at the sky and judge for myself.
