Your heart is in the right place, Alix, but you should tell someone what you are doing before you take things.

Awww, that’s so innocent! Thinking she’d get into trouble for doing the right thing.

Yeah, I was like that as a kid. But not to help others, but to help myself. Made a Zorro cape from my mother’s overcoat, without asking. Didn’t get into trouble for that one, though.

Yeah she should have sat down with them and said, “I’ve met this homeless lady who has kids and they’re living out of their van. What can we do to help them?” Then make it a family project. It would give them a chance to help others and show them how lucky they are.

Factoid for serenaskitty, from Robert Payne’s Massacre (1973); an analogous act was done in late 1920’s or early 1930’s by (future) “Father of Bangladesh” Mujibur Rehman. He had opened his (farmer) dad’s granaries and distributed some rice to abjectly-poor when his dad had caught him; after explaining it, Mujib was told by his dad “please let me know next time you wish to distribute alms”.

When I read this (yesterday) and the lady said she was living in a van, Chris Farley’s ghost popped in my head & yelled…..”DOWN BY THE RIVER!” I know, but some of you thought that too right? This is a cute story and sad because this could really happen.
