Joan: Maybe you should start brown-bagging your lunch, Wally. Wally: But, if I do THAT...what will happen to the taco stand in front of my building?? Joan: Why? Are you single-handedly keeping them in business? Wally: Um... Joan: They named a taco after you, didn't they? Wally: The WALLY GRANDE!!

Figure up how much per day he spends at that stand then figure up how much brown-bagging would cost. Go for the cheaper one. Duh.

Wally has a point though: that there’s ripples from our behavior, whether we know it or not. Our economy is interconnected. Wally eats bag lunch, taco stand loses a customer. Taco stand loses income, and what happens when they can’t float it anymore either? Someone else is out of work- and they have to cut expenses. Gee, drop some of the insurance coverage to save money… and if Wally is their insurance man…

I doubt one customer is going to make or break them, though if many people start brown bagging it will cause them to go out of business.

Another option–change how many days he eats there–they still get some business, but he gets a $ break.
