Well, not on this list, evidently.

Sure you can Nick. It’s easy. Ronald Reagan couldn’t read a calendar or tell time as his ruinous eight years in the White House wound down.Reagan made Bush 43 possible.Reagan made our nightmarish police/prison/corporate/military state possible. The sweetest part is that millions of idiots who voted for him and supported his human-animal hybrid offspring W are getting everything they deserve…with interest.

How about just human Ted. But for a guy who didn’t have to, and whose interests were not often served by it, this guy worked his tail off to make life better for the less well off. I bet nobody on this list put in the hours this guy did.

We are going to have to learn to accept that those who work in Washington are human…just like the rest of us. The other piece of this equation is that those who run for public office are going to have to stop pushing their own moral agendas as ways to measure their competence for the job. Those who use their moral agendas as proof that they are the right people to lead are oftentimes found wanting, as we have seen in the news lately. I wonder if any of our greatest politicians could have accomplished anything of significance with the scrutiny of the 24/7 news reporting networks. The media examines and dissects every aspect of a public official’s life and serves it to the public more as gossip than informative reporting. Lincoln would have been hounded out of office for his depression and sometimes off color jokes. FDR, had an affair, as did Eisenhower and don’t get me started with Jefferson and his mistress. Washington’s poor oral health would have been a joke, Teddy Roosevelt’s high, squeaky voice would have had some question his manhood…the list goes on. Reflect on what important legislature would not have been championed by Teddy if he had left the Senate after the death of his aid. He certainly did not need the money he made from the job. He worked hard for our future and he made some mistakes in his personal life. How many of us will die having done things we aren’t proud of, and more importantly, how many of us will die having made so many important contributions to the betterment of this country. God speed, Ted. Hope you are enjoying your reunion with your family…and thank you!

Pretty tasteless. Did he have a cartoon like this when Reagan croaked?

I sort of bristled at first. On reflection, tho, I agree. A flawed human, but as pointed out here, a tireless legislator who care deeply about the voiceless and disenfranchised. And a consummate politician who achieved a great deal in a deeply flawed institution.

I’m going to have to agree with Anderson and fbrewer. Failing to note his weaknesses AND his accomplishments is to ignore part of the man.

He was always thinking of others regardless. He even had the courtesy to die while Congress is in recess so no time on the health care debate would be lost.

Pretty tasteless indeed. Kennedy had his faults but he had his good side too like any other human being. Let the man rest in peace.

I find it to be an honest portrayal, but I do think his good achievements far outweigh the bad. I know young people who have had to live with an accident they caused taking the life of their friend, and believe me, it is punishment enough to live with it the rest of your life. As I recall at the time, he repeatedly dove into the water to try to save her and cell phones were not an option at the time. I don’t know that it would have served anyone for him to set out on foot to find someone to save her as she was probably already long since dead. But he should be remembered more for the lives he has bettered with his legislative efforts – children, disabled, working persons, and maybe, just maybe we will have some form of healthcare for all as a result of those efforts – tho it’s a shame he didn’t live to see it.

cwr, I wonder how the diver would have figured out how long she may have lived before she died? Remember, according to medical science, alcoholism is a disease. He was drunk and didn’t do what he would have done if he were sober. Drunk drivers always get sympathy because of this supposed disease. Well, accidents like this will happen much less often if they would just quadtriple the tax on alcohol.
