Such a well-done strip. My first comment because it’s worth it - I look forward to this strip every day!

elsupremo, first strip I read in the morning! Chip is a genius! Sometimes he re-visits jokes from years before with a slight twist, but they’re good to see again! I do wish he would bring back Seahawk though!

“Carrot and stick” is a different metaphor than “carrot on a stick.” The latter is what we have here, yes, but the former is also in common (and proper) usage. It refers to the difference between positive motivation and negative motivation: You can motivate a donkey to move either with a carrot applied to his front end, or with a stick applied to his back end.

This kind of moral suasion works well with animals and other dumb brutes, viz: “I do good because I hope for Heaven” and “I do good because I fear Hell.” A third option, “I do good because it is good to do it”, seems to leave most people unmoved.
