“We can also make movies and upload them on YouTube that way!”
I wonder what kind of privacy policy Hogwarts would have. It must be quite hard to enforce some kind of security when your senior students can basically kick reality on the backside and tell it to heel.
Ah, but Rowling made it very clear that technology doesn’t work at Hogwarts; presumably technology and magic are somewhat incompatible. And also presumably they have their own privacy spells.
For those who like this kind of thing, I recommend Randall Garrett’s Lord D’Arcy mysteries in an alternate history where magic is science.
I am glad to see all the Potter fans out there! harley, like you I saw the latest movie and actually liked it, though I could not help noting how it left so many crucial bits out. These books, if ever they were meant to be animated (in the cinematic sense) would have been best made as a television series where they could put in all of it so that none of the humor and mystery was eliminated. Sigh.
As to the part about technology not working at Hogwarts, I believe you’ll find that in book 4, The Goblet of Fire. They have a discussion of Harry trying to use an Aqualung in the Lake during the second trial. For those who care, he ended up using Gillyweed.
Thanks, cdward, harley. It did occur to me that they could use the “Buffy approach” to deal with Ol’ Voldemort -
Demon: “No weapon forged can stop me.”
Buffy: “That was then. This is now.” [Fires anti-tank
rocket launcher].
If you like urban fantasy, Harley, I have many suggestions. I like Charlaine Harris and Jim Butcher particularly. Harris’ books have been adapted (and built on) surprisingly well in “True Blood.”
Very nice hour with J.K. Rowing last night on ABC. She had a good story, did NOT “write down” for the kids, and they loved it. Others are now trying to copy the success, but aren’t hitting the mark. It is wonderful to see kids actually becoming readers because of her work.

Or find a copy of Ralph Bakshi’s “Wizards”. Great post apocalyptic animated movie where magic has replaced technology in the world.

I’m surprised nobody here has popped up yet describing how HP books are the gateway to ETERNAL DAMNATION!!!
ROFLMAO!

Froggy, if your HP Notebook doesn’t work call tech support. ;)

@Nomad - I don’t know if you were being ironic there, but I am pretty sure Corosive Frog meant Harry Potter, not Hewlett Packard ;) .
