Meh, I get my US news from the Daily Show and the Go Comics site. Both make me laugh and think.

I go through several sources, with differing biases as well as non U.S. media. However, I admit that keeping track of significant events and policy changes has a great deal of relevence to my job.

BTW both Stewart and Colbert are hilarious and often generate some interesting thoughts. Also, my students are much more likely to watch them than the traditional media.

GN: I’ve seen the bias on those other stations: It’s to the right. Lou Dobbs ran a story questioning Obama’s citizenship three days after his own network debunked the story. Newt Gingrich is on the panel shows regularly, even through he hasn’t held elected office in ten years. Liz Cheney gets to be a regular commentator, even though she’s never done anything in her life. When Sarah Palin couldn’t explain the cornerstone of the nation’s foreign policy, talking heads everywhere complained that she was set up. When Democrats opposed authorizing war in Iraq, an opinion that 40%-50% of the nation shared, the headlines ran “Democrats are in trouble”. Now that Republicans oppose universal healthcare, something 55% of Americans want this year, the headlines read “Obama is in trouble”. When Obama suggested that arresting people who haven’t broken the law is bad police work, the headlines read “Obama is in trouble”. The best way to kill a journalism career dead is to get a reputation for being ‘too liberal”.

Conservatives love complaining about ‘liberal bias’. It lets them change the subject every time their policies fail or they get caught with their hand in the cookie jar. After years of this kind of whining, the MSM is flinchy over any suggestion that their reporting might not match GOP talking points.

    GNW:

To paraphrase another contibutor to our shared hobby:

Maybe reality just does have a liberal bias! ;-)

«And that’s the way our sponsors and bag men want you to hear it.» Alas, despite the nostalgia, it was the same in Walter Cronkite’s day ; it’s merely that the lies and spin are so much more blatant now, and the purveyors so much better paid….
