According to Nobel’s will, the Peace Prize should be awarded “to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses.”[
Whether or not Obama was the best choice is up to the committee to decide. They said they felt he had done the most to change the toxic tenor of international relations. I would hardly expect some on this site to agree, but who cares?
I’ll give nomad one, however. Bono could have been a great choice.
Side Question: How many active generals have ever won the Nobel Peace Prize?
(i love that line, it comes from “Out of Africa” when Meryl Streep, after crossing the continent on oxen, arrives at her husband’s camp with food and supplies and looking the worse for wear. Her husband, seeing her wild and disheveled look, says, ” You changed your hair.”)
Alfred regretted the damage caused to humanity by his inventions and sought to use his wealth thus earned for peace. (and other human accomplishments for the betterment of Mankind)
Cheney, Bush, and their minions spread death to churn their butter with the profits from guns.
petergrt - I realized I missed your reply to me a couple of days back. I disagree completely with you on your view on liberal ideology, but I respect that you have done your own homework on it.

I say it again, Obama hasn’t earned it yet. He straightened the image of the US abroad, but it was mostly because of his image.
