However, can’t you love your country and want to change something about it at the same time? Did Lincoln, who want to abolish slavery even if it meant impinging on states’ rights, not love his country? Did MLK hate America?
Just because Moore is not happy with the way America has been recently does not mean he does not love his country as much as his own bashers do. And just because people pay to see his movies does not mean that he is a hypocrite (though I don’t know him well enough to say 100% he is not).
Michael Moore is not “anti-American”- he’s just trying to serve as our alarm clock. It is time we woke and made this a BETTER nation, and in fact return to our previous “principles” not based on CEO profits, no health care for the sick (with or without insurance), and spirit if unity to care about the planet we inhabit and share with neighbors both here, and abroad.

Michael Moore tells it like it is and if he has made some money doing so then good for him. He points out what he sees as flaws in the system. Much of what he points out as flaws, I agree with. The health care system, the role capitalism has had in the past 35 years, the mess after 9-11, these have all been extremely important issues to everyone in this country.
More’s films sell all over the world. I’m not american and I own Bowling for Columbine, Farenheit 9/11 and Canadian Bacon on DVD.
There is a difference between criticizing a system and being against a whole nation. Also, the weaknesses that he point s out aren’t just american, they are the entire western world’s; we have a certain culture of fear here, too (less visible in english than french-canadian news), just like in Bowling for Columbine. There are also stock exchanges and corprations in Europe and Asia.
You know, becoming rich by marketing your movies with a criticism of capitalism doesn’t mean you approve of everything done under the guise of capitalism or free trade. You can be a capitalist and favor restrictions on business.
Frankly, I don’t think this is all that pointed – it’s too easy. I haven’t seen the movie, and am unlikely to – I think Moore’s movies get better when he’s offscreen, kind of like Mel Brooks – but from what I have read, he is making very specific critiques of capitalism, or certain kinds of capitalism.
A far better movie than any of Michael Mooreon’s was “An American Carol” - billed as a spoof of Mooreon, it seemed more like a documentary of his fraud.
