The pro-Hamas riots spreading on campuses have more similarities to Iran 1979 than to US 1969 peace marches. The innocent hostages being held captive, the chanting of “Death to Israel!” and “Death to America!” Radical students pushing for a transformation of ideologies. The change to a tyrannical govt. that came about from the anarchy. For anyone who doesn’t know yet; these riots are going to get far worse before it’s over. Buckle up.
There’s really no comparison. Not only were we stuck in Vietnam, there was a draft. So the students knew some of their dead peers and were under a threat themselves. Next Saturday is the 54th anniversary of Kent State and the strike that shut down the universities and colleges. It forced Nixon to keep his promise to end the American Phase of the Vietnamese Civil War. These demonstrations have little impact on foreign policy.
Non violent demonstrations…well, we can’t have that, now can we?
And who are these young ones, who say “Stop killing the women and children1” ? Troublemakers everyone. I’ll bet they’re all registered voters.
“Many people, especially ignorant people, want to punish you for speaking the truth, for being correct, for being you. Never apologize for being correct, or for being years ahead of your time. If you’re right and you know it, speak your mind. Speak your mind. Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is still the truth.” Moe G.
The invasion of Iraq was clearly unjust and illegal. Why have we never prosecuted Bush and his people?
Where were the protests when we tortured prisoners and imprisoned them for decades?
Gitmos is a stain that will remain on our national soul forever.
Where were the protests when we bungled Afghanistan and squandered any good we could have done there?
Instead of bringing Afghanistan closer to the West we restored the Taliban and abandoned those who supported us.
We needed those protests a long time ago. We need them now. We need a voice that at least makes us stop and think and wonder, “Are we doing the right thing?”
Vietnam vets endured MUCH more than vets now….the war itself was horrific and when they came home they were spit on,disrespected, called baby killers & much worse….EVERY Vietnam vet has my unwavering respect for what they were FORCED to do….God Bless’em all……….
There’s one question I’d like to ask these students who are “oh so concerned about the Palestinian plight”; why aren’t they also protesting Russia’s war with Ukraine?
Guess the reason for protecting this country overlooks the 1st amendment: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” and jumps to the 2nd.”
Nothing they do on our campuses will have any effect in Israel. And they waited for good weather for this crap. If you’re so “committed”, just send money. Or harass Russian students about Ukraine.

Many people are saying that those college protests/riots where really trump supporters dressed up like college students.

Wait until they tear apart the Chicago DNC convention. Deja vu all over again.

These protests are nothing like the Vietnam protests. Not even close. The current protesters are clueless.

This cartoon reminds me of the old joke about the fellow who regains consciousness after many years in a coma.
The first thing he says / asks is, “The last thing I remember is news that President Eisenhower had a heart a heart attack. How is he?”
“Oh, Eisenhower is dead, now”
“Oh, no! That means that Nixon is President!”

They were anti protesters at the time, that’s why they went to Vietnam.
Student protesters are always right.

And like 1968, the Republicans are running another crook for president.
