We used to call ‘cheese boards’ appetizers, to sound a little fancy. Then, to sound fancier (and maybe add some meats), hors de d’oeuvres. Now it’s charcuterie boards, which just means ‘cold cuts’ (but ‘officially’ includes cheese, meat, and crackers). Kinda like a ‘pot luck’ meal being a Smörgåsbord or buffet.
Adopting words, looks, and traditions from other parts of the world, used to be a sign of being ‘cultured’ (or at least attempting). Now there are (usually ignorant) folks who call it ‘cultural appropriation’.

I can’t recall how a mousetrap works. Has it already snapped? And why is the cheese on top of the part that snaps? Wouldn’t it be under?
