That is quite a dis, Leandra. But if this strip were in color, I am sure you would be inspired along with Neal.

Those fleas will do anything for Charlie Chapbasset! As long as they get a bite at the end of the show.

The grand master of silent slapstick…

I’ve said it before… and I’ll say it again….

nobody could slap a stick or fetch one like Charlie!

This film is truly funny… in such deft comedic hands, er.. paws… you don’t need words.

Inimitable as Chapbasset was, he did have a human imitator….

who called himself Charlie “Chaplin.” Hah!

Sure enough, he did imitate this film….

I see the all-human version is merely “Circus” …

I guess cos they couldn’t find any fleas….

Bassets have much better access to them, performing or otherwise.

Ask any basset you know.

And it must not have had big co-stars in it like “Flea Circus” did,

cos none of the posters I found even mentioned any.

Probably couldn’t find a great human beauty, to take the place of Merna Kennel.

Some Cleo trivia….

Even though Charlie Chapbasset was a much bigger star (measured by fame, not stature),

A very young Cleo actually played the title role in a film with the human, Charlie Chaplin….

Leandra is a little nervous about what we might think of Neal’s decorating attempts…

Inspiration can take many forms, Leandra. One can “inspire” revulsion, disgust, or dismay for example.

Pretty cool, StelBel. You even got the pale blue eyelidiness to match the sky. (or is that eyegiddiness?)

Good thing it’s Charlie. Another basset might be inclined to “flease” the customers…
