Can anyone honestly believe that buying a car would be 1¢ cheaper for us if autoworkers were paid at minimum wage?

Fugeddaboutit. Businesses charge the highest price the market will stand for. Period. Wages ain’t in it…

    • Ford auto & truck revenue increased 16% to $158 billion for 2022, including a 17% uptick in the fourth quarter of $44 billion.

    • General Motors increased to some $157 billion in revenue during the 2022 fiscal year, a rise of 23%.

    • Chrysler/Stellantis’ income in North America rose 23% to $15 billion in 2022, and posted a new record profit margin of 16%, slightly bettering the previous record from 2021.

Chrysler/Stellantis will give some eligible hourly full-time workers profit-sharing checks of up to $14,760 each this year, an increase of less than 1% from last year.

    • Toyota 2022 income $471 billion.

    • Tesla revenue for 2022 was $94 billion, a 40% increase, with 2021 coming in at $54 billion, a 71% increase from 2020.

I have a feeling that AI will turn around and bite the hand that feeds it (meaning its creators). I don’t know exactly when or how it will happen, but the effects of AI will be a huge example of the law of unintended consequences.

How ARE we going to deal with the end of work? Poorly I suspect.

Makes me think of the ‘Robocop’ movies… AI and mega-corporation[s]. Granted the policeman robot was a ‘good’ bot but I believe a ‘bad’ bot showed up.
