    I always heard it as “old wives tale”. Perhaps it is being suppressed because someone thinks it is suggesting that the wives are old rather than the actual meaning of the tale being old and told by wives.

    But “rude” implies intent (example: Bucky is rude). A dog’s bowels are indeed offensive, but it’s not intentional, so they’re not “rude”.
