Yes, I believe he can. It won’t be as easy as it should be because he’s a VERY talented con man and will be manipulating for all he’s worth. But people in his inner circle (whatever that means to him, the rest of us understand it to mean “trusted” confidants) TOLD him that his lies were false. Repeatedly. Some of them on the record, I think, though Pence at least has only his after the fact notes.

Ted, it absolutely does not matter what Trump thought. He was NOT indicted for what he thought.

    .

And you’ll notice that NONE of the right wing cartoonists have even made a feeble attempt to claim Trump is innocent of ANY of the charges. And only one or two have even acknowledged that there ever WERE any indictments.

Smith’s specifically not using the state of Trump’s mind in the indictment. He’s using the actual fact that Trump created a conspiracy to overthrow the election. Conspiracies to do that sort of thing are criminal even if they don’t succeed.

Not likely sense he’ll likely still be spewing that nonsense during the court dates, and will likely be vomiting it as often as he can on the witness stand.

At this point, not even Laura Ingram stands with him, that’s a statement and a half. Yet he still had about a 30 point lead in the polls. I can’t even pretend to understand that one.

Considering we now know the Hunter laptop is real, the FBI knew it was real and lied about it, the media outlets were fed lies about the laptop and polls show that a lot of people would not had voted for Biden had they knew the truth about the laptop, yeah, easy to see how Trump thought he was cheated out of victory.

Fascinating reference to King Henry II because he is the common ancestor of every person ever elected President of the United States. Every. Person.

I call them the Plantagenet Presidents because the candidate with the most genes as a descendant of Henry II always wins the election.

@aristoclesplato9 – oh, for God’s sake. Not only do you defend this convicted rapist and fraudster, and outright traitor to his oath as president, but you want him to get off any consequences with…what? Randomly bringing in Hunter Biden, which is nonsense?

Try looking at the facts. If you read what he did, it was extremely clear he knew full well he lost. You don’t ask someone to “find more votes” if you think you had enough in the first place. You don’t set up false electors if you think the real ones are good enough. You don’t tell your vice-president who you are trying to suborn into criminal activity that he is “too honest” unless you want him to be dishonest.

I swear to God, you must use a pretzel as a straightedge. Of course, #45 probably does too, which explains his crappy buildings…

Henry II was truly remorseful about what his knights did, took full responsibility and spent the rest of his life building churches and monasteries to ease his guilt. I don’t see #45 doing any of that.

Secret memo shows Trump campaign knew fake elector scheme was likely to fail

An internal Trump campaign memo by Kenneth Chesebro, a lawyer allied with Donald Trump, reveals new details about how the former president and his team initiated the plan to interfere with the electoral college process and install fake GOP electors in multiple states after losing the 2020 presidential election.

The 6 December 2020 memo, made public on Tuesday by the New York Times, shows how Chesebro laid out the plan to put forth slates of Republican electors in seven key swing states that Trump had lost.

The document, which federal prosecutors described as a “fraudulent elector memo”, revealed that Chesebro proposed the appointment of fake electors, and detailed a “messaging” strategy to portray them as evidence if legislatures later concluded Trump as the victor in those states.

In the memo, Chesebro acknowledges that he is suggesting a “bold, controversial strategy” that the supreme court would “likely” ultimately reject. He argues that the plan would focus attention on claims of voter fraud and “buy the Trump campaign more time to win litigation that would deprive Biden of electoral votes and/or add to Trump’s column”.

The memo was referenced in the four-count indictment against Trump by a Washington DC grand jury last month. The indictment identifies, but does not name, Chesebro as a co-conspirator in Trump’s alleged conspiracy to obstruct certification of the 2020 election.

In separate, previously seen emails, Chesebro had also suggested having then-vice president Mike Pence open and count the electoral votes alone. Pence would then certify the fake electors’ votes, even though Biden would have won the state, according to the plan.

Like any half-way competent (and Donny is only half-way) grifter, Donny believes the lie he’s telling you is the absolute truth. He also, at the same time, knows it to be false. Without this doublethink there’s no grift, and Don Boy is all about the grift.

Smith doesn’t have to prove if Trump believed it or not, he just has to prove he engaged in illegal behavior. I can fervently believe Ted Rall is Russian asset menace, even say it, but I can’t engage a hit man to take him out.
