I’m TOTALLY in favor of right-leaning third parties. And I suspect that Manchin would pull more votes out of the GQP bucket than he would pull from the Democrats. Certainly a lot of my politically oriented friends will still remember his behavior in 2021 and 2022 (liberals do tend to remember the past, it’s part of WHY they’re liberal).

I took Perot for the phony he was easily. By then, my vote was also easy to decide.

We need more parties. Are we ready for that? Nope. Pity.

Green party. You forgot the green party.

Dems fear a third party. The big issue for the GOP is the candidate. And Trump will be out of the game soon enough.

But for the Dems, the issue is their loony agenda. And that will haunt them no matter who is running.

Nothing in the Constitution regarding political parties. It’s all laws after the fact restricting them from becoming viable (i.e. able to get on individual state ballots during elections). Time to end that, to also use Ranked Choice Voting, and to also eliminate the Electoral College. But those will happen about the time Santa’s coming down my chimney at Xmas.

Mr. Perot made a formidable statement. Unfortunately, little has changed since his bid for president.

Manchin and Sinema are obstructionists …good riddance!

Our electoral system definitely needs work. But one of the problems it has is that third parties don’t work in presidential elections. Those are limited by the anachronistic Electoral College which REQUIRES a majority vote of state electors, not a plurality of voters. It was designed for a time when communication was slow and education was limited. Times has changed.

With the Electoral College in play Article II states that if no candidate gets a majority, the election goes to the House. Since the current House is (barely) controlled by one party, that will nullify the votes of a LOT of voters in the country.

Many other countries have ways to deal with multiple parties in an election, but they also allow the government to undergo a re-election in case the legislative body (bodies) lose confidence in the executive branch, leading to elections at irregular intervals rather than on a specific schedule.

There must be ways to give third parties a real voice in our country. It is clear that the two-party system is not working at present. Both parties are pulling in opposite directions. For a third party to work in a presidential election, the Electoral College has to be eliminated or at least seriously revamped.

Anyone remember when Ross said passing NAFTA will cause American jobs and manufacturing to move out of this country. We elect presidents as celebrities.

Nice morph. In 1992, Ross Perot got 18% or 20 million votes. He likely pulled pulled mote votes from GHW Bush than Clinton, Clinton won. “Read my lips,” Clinton would have likely won anyway.

sick to death of people bad mouthing third parties. The status quo bias is killing this country. Ross Perot would not have been bad at all. As Cornell West said we are between a Trump civil war and a Biden WWIII. Biden has Dick Cheney flunky Victoria Nuland running foreign policy. looks like RFK jr in the primary and Cornell West in the general for me.

Trump squeaks out a narrow win with a third party. Trump addicts aren’t going to change their votes. It will be interesting to find out who would be funding a third party.

In Hollywood they have the A list, in this countries coming election the politicians wanting to become president seem to all fall onto the A hole list! No one with common sense wants the job because you have to work in the cesspool that has developed in DC.

Trump is quite likely to be the Republican nominee. He needs to try to confuse his legal problems and keep the money coming in. If he is not, he will run as an independent and a pretty large part of the Republicans will vote for him. People who identify as Republicans are between 33% and 42% of voters, depending on the year and currently way down. It is very difficult with those numbers for the RNC to win a national election. If they lose the Trump voters, the Democrats will be able to elect pretty much anyone they want. Conversely, if Trump is the Republican nominee, a pretty significant portion of their party will not want to vote for a Democrat, but will also have some reservations about voting for a treasonous, sexually assaulting, dishonest sleazebag, so they will just not turn out to vote, again handing the White House to the Democrats, along with a bunch of down ticket races riding coattails.

Our political system is NOT ‘broken’. It is working just as our Founders designed, evidenced by our constitution addressing all the issues we have today. A Democratic-Republic is supposed to have opposing views, opposing sides, opposing support and opposition. The Majority rules, the minority loses and rules when they win a majority. In his farewell address, Washington warned against political parties. Why? Because other Founders established political parties. And more than just two. Our Founders had opposing views from the start.

Those who tell you “our system is broken” and our constitution is outdated, have their own agenda opposing the United States of America. They are lying to you.

3rd parties have a mixed record. Harry Truman won in 1948 in spite of a 3 way split in the Democratic party. My dad voted for Henry Wallace. The Nader and Perot candidacies had some effect on the outcome. George Wallace didn’t draw as much support as it looked like although the AIP is still around. Before WWII the Socialist Party got some respectable vote totals but FDR won a few elections anyway.

1. Universal ranked-choice voting. 2. No taxpayer-financed or officially endorsed party primaries. 3. Ballot access solely through petition of a small percentage of citizens.

Parties? We don’t need no steenking parties!

After wrecking the Biden Agenda of course he should run for president, his career as a democrat is over, no one’s gonna vote for him in WVA, and he’ll never draw as many as Perot.
