    Sorry folks, there are only 2 wells. Wells have porous walls to let the ground water IN. The cistern in the middle has a waterproof seal applied throughout its inside for keeping water from seeping OUT.

    I guess this particular kind of cistern only collects water that gets in through the top. I’m more familiar with various kinds of roof top collectors. (I’ve forgotten the clever ways some had to keep the water clear of bird poop and other droppings.)
