A generation of affirmative action. Where are the results? While it may have benefited some, many Blacks are still left behind. Schools in Black neighborhoods are worse than 20 years ago. The solution to Black poverty, under employment, and under education may lie elsewhere.
Yep, they hated affirmative action, but are OK with wealthy people making huge donations to get their under performing children into colleges/universities they would otherwise never been accepted to. Then there’s the whole legacy child thing, that just because mom, though more often, dad went their they’ll let their idiot child in regardless of whether they were smart enough to get in on their own. Who also, usually spend more time partying than studying, getting passed by teachers, not because of their effort, but because the teachers are afraid to give them the failing grades they deserve.
Whereas, those that benefited from affirmative action often over performed beyond expectations, as they knew they couldn’t squander the education in front of them like their wealthy counterparts could.
‘Distortion of American reality’: Dan Rather condemns Supreme Court’s affirmative action ruling
Former news anchor Dan Rather slammed the Supreme Court’s decision against affirmative action in university admissions on Thursday in a blistering substack post with Elliot Kirschner.“We may wish we lived in a society where the color of one’s skin and one’s ethnic and cultural background didn’t matter, where we were solely judged by what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. famously called the ‘content of our character.’ But we are not there,” wrote Rather and Kirschner. “We’ve improved, we’ve learned, we’ve made progress. But we’re not there. Not nearly.”
All you, “Things are worse now” guys are full of krap.
I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s. I remember what it was like.
The world was SEGREGATED. They kept to themselves, we kept to ours. You never saw mixed race couples. You never saw minorities at movies, restaurants or parks unless they were working there.
I never even spoke to a Black man until I was in the Army. I was in my 30’s before I had a close Black friend.
This wasn’t just me, this was the way of life in America.
How did life change? Federal programs. Truly integrated military. And Blacks being encouraged to go to white colleges.
Did any of that honestly hurt White people? No, it did not. It made us better, more humane. Nicer.
Except for all you racist, backwards, knuckle-dragging, mouth breathing, droolers who insist that somehow your rights were damaged. You make me sick.
The anti-affirmative action folk have taken to quoting Rev. Martin Luther King in his statement about how one day one would be judged by their character, not their color. I wonder if we’re at that point where we’re ready to not have affirmative action.
I think it’s just awful that colleges should admit students based on academic merit instead of the melanin content of their skin. How dare we reward people based on merit instead of accidents of birth?
Think about all the recent decisions by the recent Supreme Court starting the decision on Roe. Which political party has become stronger because of these decisions?
How terrible that affirmative action is ending! Now we’ll have to admit that the Black Doctor, Black Lawyer, or Black with a PHD is really qualified! No more denigrating POCs because they only got there on affirmative action! How undemocratic(party), how un Jim Crow!/s
‘You are now $10,000 poorer than you were yesterday’: Fury meets SCOTUS’ student loan ruling
The Supreme Court on Friday blocked the Education Department from canceling up to $ 20,000 per person of student debt in a major defeat for President Joe Biden’s agenda as he runs for reelection. The program has been blocked since October when the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a temporary hold in October.

The anti revolutionary right wing court loves to take away all gains made in the 1960’s.

SCOTUS just made it harder for those who need help getting in over the rich white “legacy” admissions.

After more than 60 years of affirmative action, the left tells us things are worse now. Well, that’s how one might define failure.
Maybe we should try another approach.
