Thank You, Mr. Cavna, for Remembering. The survivors of that “contest” are nearing a Century old – it seems up to us to carry on, now.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:/ Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn./ At the going down of the sun and in the morning/ We will remember them.
Lest we forget. My dad’s health was destroyed in North Africa so he was back in the US training pilots on D Day. Those lucky kids never had to fight.
“Day is done. Gone the sun, from the lake, from the hills from the sky. All is well, safely rest. God is nigh.”
Representative Text
1 Day is done,
Gone the sun,
From the lake,
From the hills,
from the sky;
All is well,
Safely rest,
God is nigh.
2 Fading light
Dims the sight,
And a star
Gems the sky,
Gleaming bright.
From afar,
Drawing night,
Falls the night.
